BEASTFOLK: A PLOT INFO

Beastfolk
a Pastoral
May 15 - June 24

The Beastfolk of Home have been scratching out a living in their little corner of a highly dangerous world for over a century now, making the most of the few resources they have and relying on oral tradition and the strange visions of their seers to keep themselves going. But when a strange creature - that only one of the village elders recognises as a mythical human - stumbles into their enclave from beyond the desert and the latest group of foundling Beastfolk to arrive on Gods’ Isle is considerably larger than usual, questions about just what brought them there and how to move forward begin to arise…

Investigators landing in the small group of humans: Is that even possible?

Re: QUESTIONS

In theory, yes, but very unlikely? There really isn't a convenient excuse for someone new showing up with the humans, so there would be concerns.

If someone would like to be(come) an investigator with the human group it would be much more workable to either arrange a de-infiltration, or to use infiltrator persona.

If being with the humans is a big draw or important, but infiltration Can't Happen for a reason, I'm willing to make every effort to work out a way for it to happen, but it will require one-on-one chats, I think, to sort out all the tricky bits and bobs.

How old do centaurs who have minor but not necessarily fatal back problems live? I was thinking of Jean being very stubborn (and likely blind) dad type towards foundlings.

Re: QUESTIONS

Technically? With minor problems, they could probably live as long as any folk (folk lifespans are a close match to human life-spans) but they would also face social pressure to go back to the gods.

But as long as they could contribute in a meaningful way, they wouldn't be forced into it! Still, the dangers of the setting mean that life expectancy tends to be lower. Anyone who's lived for 40 years or more would be considered an Elder, because a lot of folk end up getting killed before they've been in Home that long. And Foundlings coming in at such a wide variation in ages mean that someone can become a dad-type even at a really young age (or dad folk chronologically much older than them).

So it's flexible!

Since the Folk can never go far from Home and humans are considered mythical, do the Folk generally believe the rest of the world to be completely uninhabited?

Re: QUESTIONS

Some do, adamantly! Most just don't think about the world outside Home enough to have an opinion. But a few have theories that there are other communities of folk out there (and/or the homes of the gods). It's just that nothing can be proven, because no one has left Home and lived to come back to tell the tale.

Would a raven be out of place in this jaunt or is Bob gonna have to be a different type of bird?

[personal profile] insidegalra 2019-05-12 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
A screecher would be the closest to an actual bird. Everything except the spiders is a chimera, and the spiders are badly mutated monkeys.

Would it be possible for an investigatorfoundling to show up missing a limb, since you said foundling Beastfolk never have defects?

[personal profile] insidegalra 2019-05-16 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
At best, the natives would be concerned and frightened. At worst, suspicious and angry.

The investigator would most likely be left on the isle, since something obviously went wrong somehow, or the gods were angry with this foundling.

The exception would be if the wound looked super fresh (as if the foundling had just had a tangle with a needle-fish or something). In that case, there would be pressure to go back to the Gods on the Day of farewell, but the foundling would be cared for in the meantime.

I keep asking weird questions but here goes:

If Casper tried to sense power levels (basically) on the midges, would he get anything?
insidegalra: (Default)

[personal profile] insidegalra 2019-05-17 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Can you tell me more how the sensing works and what it picks up? Depending on how Casper's skill works, he could get a whole lot of info or none at all.

Are there any examples one can give about what gods would do if they get angry?

Re: QUESTIONS

[personal profile] insidegalra 2019-05-24 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of things are blamed on the gods' anger: sudden terrible turns in the weather, crop diseases with sudden onset, the springs suddenly becoming contaminated, fast spreading illnesses that crop up without warning, sudden fish die-off etc etc (and a good portion of those *are* caused by the gods... But not necessarily out of anger)

For someone born here, are the parents usually also born here or are they usually foundlings? (things I never expected to think about)
insidegalra: (Default)

Re: QUESTIONS

[personal profile] insidegalra 2019-05-30 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably more likely to be foundlings. There isn't evidence that both parents being foundlings decreases the chance of defects, but that's the general superstition.

However, some born folk do decide to have children of their own, especially if they have only very minor issues, or no apparent issues at all.

Ignis canonly can whip up food that has status effects such as "Prevents Poison". While he's been assuming this works, does it really work against:
1) Toxins
2) Poisonous atmosphere

I'd rather not assume myself. Thank you in advance!

Re: QUESTIONS

Okay, I've given this some thought and some questions in return:

Does the status effect take place immediately (ie is it magic?), or does it work like actual medicine and needs to be digested/absorbed into the body first?

Does the effect continue on after the food has been eaten for a time?

Does it provide anything extra, or just neutralise poisons? (ie if there's a poison that, say, drags the potassium/calcium etc ions out of the cells, does it just stop the poison working, or does it also put the stuff back?)

So what is the company policy for actors who decide that they can't handle Home anymore and show up with the rest of the Mythics on Gods' Isle on the Day of Farewells?
