DIGITAL FRONTIER: LEGACY MODE - JAUNT INFO

Digital Frontier: Legacy Mode
May 7 - June 16

In the Network, more than a dozen Systems flourish - independent nations connected by high-speed data lines, overseen by Programs - humanoid beings made of pure information, each with its own Purpose and Priority in the System.

Only twice in the history of the Network has a System fully fallen to viral corruption - first the ZODIAC, and then the Grid. Five cycles ago, an expedition from other Systems managed to restore the Grid under very strange circumstances - but the rest of the Network, unconvinced that the recovered Programs weren’t concealing viral influence behind their unnatural behavior and outlandish stories, has kept the Grid under strict isolation.

Until now. The Colossus, a System admired for its rugged survivalism and powerful military, is willing to take a risk on the Grid. The Colossus is sending its own team of soldiers and experts to attempt to recover the lost ZODIAC System. Their expedition travels on a large, encapsulated vessel called the Rejuvenator, specifically meant to be difficult to control, to have new Data and Programs uploaded to it remotely - but to be totally unable to send any data back without Colossus approval. If the mission fails, the Rejuvenator will never be allowed to return.

But all the fresh-trained Programs from the Colossus are untested. To give them the best chance at success, the Rejuvenator was sent first to the Grid, to take on a volunteer crew. If the ZODIAC Initial Probe fails, the Grid will remain under lockdown. But if it succeeds, and the Colossus Programs send back a positive report, the Network will consider opening their Ports to the Grid again, and letting its Programs rejoin civilization...

That's cool! I'm always making things hard on you guys whoops.

Final question! For infiltrators using the full physical change of a jaunt option, would devouring a program WHILE a program satisfy hunger needs, as the usual method is physically impossible (programs vs meat = ???) but programs vs programs could make sense as they're currently made of the same stuff? Mind, this is likely to when/if occurs, be offscreen to avoid disturbing people OOCly.

SSSSSSSSSO Infiltrator Persona/Memory Restoration vs. Priority: Non-issue last time, but now we need to know.

WHAT HAPPEN

Okay, so - for some context, I'm trying to figure out how the Angels will be infiltrated for this particular jaunt. Currently, I'm thinking that they're an automata (or a group of automata?) that merged with Matthew. So, first question: is having an automata merge with whatever Matthew will be (possibly a Miner?) something that's possible? If so, what would that look like? Is a weird mish-mash of factions possible, or would they have to end up as one or the other?

An Infiltrator would not have the same needs. An Investigator would find Programs work just fine for those needs.

It would usually convert Matthew to Automata, but it doesn't HAVE to have done so completely; a mix IS possible. His colors could either flicker or be patchwork. He WOULD only have one Faction skill use/week.

Right, investigator. They both are long and start with I, and I'm easily confused. Thank you!

Please restate the question in the form of a question!

If someone is using Infiltrator Persona/has memory restoration used on them, and the overlay is a Priority-bound Program, do they still have Priority given that there's effectively a Variable steering?
comebewe: PB: Alex Price (Default)

[personal profile] comebewe 2018-04-30 02:34 am (UTC)(link)

A flicker or a patchwork could be cool! I'm basically going for a 'possessed by Automata' type thing (unless there's like, some other handy thing that exists that could be used to possess/merge with a program)

For Faction skill use, would it be a case of me needing to pick which Faction skill he can use, or would it be that he can use one Faction skill per week, but that one use could be from either faction?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2018-04-30 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Either could work!

Yes, they would still be subject to Priority, the same as a robot using InfP inside a human overlay would do that kicky thing if you tap their knee with a pointy rubber hammer.

How does magic work here, if at all? Eliot's magic is particularly open-ended, but he also has different magics picked up from Jaunts - any of that do anything?

Are Automata curable/refactionable this time around? Would there be any flexibility regarding this sort of repair? Say, can cures be 'incomplete'?

What did the Cryptos try to do about the Automata/original Arcana squabble before they got nearly destroyed and had to sleep? What are the secrets Cryptos are "hard-coded not to share outside of their own faction"? How much do Cryptos currently know about SAGE? Is that priority 1 revived Crypto from Digital Frontier 1.0 still around? Is there anything else I need to know about How to Crypto 101?

I'm contemplating how Royal Treatment would translate in this Jaunt, which leads me to ask: where do programs come from? What would "upper class" look like in this world?

For context, I'm still deciding between Defender from Colossus or plain old Variable for Dru, if that helps.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2018-05-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)

Royal Treatment would result in a Program having a high priority (say about 3-4), easy access to large or complex equipment, and an important Purpose.

Programs appear in their home system within a city in childhood, which they refer to as 'alpha,' and advance to adolescence, or 'beta' before adulthood. There is no material evidence that they have are anything but a natural development occurring in cities, but many believe they were created by and for a User. Programs in alpha & beta usually reside with guardian Programs who mentor them, and Programs often designate sections of their code to city databases in the hope that an alpha Program with similar Code will be spawned.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2018-05-01 02:04 am (UTC)(link)

Only partial repair/refactioning would be possible.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2018-05-01 02:06 am (UTC)(link)

Most magic works normally, although magic which only specifically targets certain types of people or object may not find viable targets in the Network. Many Programs have complex computational or combat abilities which relate to their Purpose, and would likely assume magic they witnessed was simply "sufficiently advanced technology."

How would Royal Treatment work for a Variable?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2018-05-01 02:13 am (UTC)(link)

Oh man.

They would display to other Programs as having a Priority of 3 or 4, and would find themselves suggestible to Priority 1-2 Programs but not compelled to obedience. Rather than equipment or Purpose, they would also begin with a surfeit of energy which would decline only very slowly unless actively and deliberately used or spent.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2018-05-01 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Prompto would find himself able to use all Program utilities (tools & equipment) proficiently and that his disc would grant him access to most locks or security subroutines as if he had the password.

He could probably also divine the Purpose of most Programs, but that would take active Oracle-ing, rather than being automatic knowledge.
