DIGITAL FRONTIER: LEGACY MODE - JAUNT INFO

Digital Frontier: Legacy Mode
May 7 - June 16

In the Network, more than a dozen Systems flourish - independent nations connected by high-speed data lines, overseen by Programs - humanoid beings made of pure information, each with its own Purpose and Priority in the System.

Only twice in the history of the Network has a System fully fallen to viral corruption - first the ZODIAC, and then the Grid. Five cycles ago, an expedition from other Systems managed to restore the Grid under very strange circumstances - but the rest of the Network, unconvinced that the recovered Programs weren’t concealing viral influence behind their unnatural behavior and outlandish stories, has kept the Grid under strict isolation.

Until now. The Colossus, a System admired for its rugged survivalism and powerful military, is willing to take a risk on the Grid. The Colossus is sending its own team of soldiers and experts to attempt to recover the lost ZODIAC System. Their expedition travels on a large, encapsulated vessel called the Rejuvenator, specifically meant to be difficult to control, to have new Data and Programs uploaded to it remotely - but to be totally unable to send any data back without Colossus approval. If the mission fails, the Rejuvenator will never be allowed to return.

But all the fresh-trained Programs from the Colossus are untested. To give them the best chance at success, the Rejuvenator was sent first to the Grid, to take on a volunteer crew. If the ZODIAC Initial Probe fails, the Grid will remain under lockdown. But if it succeeds, and the Colossus Programs send back a positive report, the Network will consider opening their Ports to the Grid again, and letting its Programs rejoin civilization...

What did the Cryptos try to do about the Automata/original Arcana squabble before they got nearly destroyed and had to sleep? What are the secrets Cryptos are "hard-coded not to share outside of their own faction"? How much do Cryptos currently know about SAGE? Is that priority 1 revived Crypto from Digital Frontier 1.0 still around? Is there anything else I need to know about How to Crypto 101?

I can bring some quasi-official answers to the table!

This is what the Cryptos started the previous jaunt knowing. It was classified at the time but isn't anymore (SAGE was the big secret and that got blown wide open at the end of the jaunt). I believe most of the hard-coded secrecy had to do with SAGE directly, but Cryptos in general keep to themselves a lot.

Matt is a better authority on what they currently know, as well as what, if anything, they were able to do to fight Automata before going into stasis.

As for what ISA/Shuu is up to, possibly we should flag down Cheshire, as that was their character? He's not currently in-game, in any case, but we've let active players say what their old characters are handwavily doing on revisits before.

Hello! ISA is in fact still around. He had a reputation for building barriers and traps and things, and in the previous Jaunt it was revealed that one of such creation was a seal that sucked in anything that walked across it. Which meant that over the period when the Cryptos were in stasis, it dragged in a LOT of Automata.

So, since the end of the first Jaunt, ISA has been slowly dismantling that trap safely. He built a big containment building over it and has been carefully extracting, cataloging, and destroying hostile Automata. He rarely leaves the containment building but will accept the occasional visitor, especially fellow Cryptos.

I can adjust whatever if this doesn't work (I came up with this before I realized Automata would be playable) but regardless he's probably being a workaholic hermit somewhere. He'd surface to say hi to new/recovered Cryptos and then tell them to go away, he's busy. |D

The comments above cover everything we had in mind - if you're still uncertain, we can try to clarify further; just let us know what you need to know about!

These are wonderful, yes! Hopefully this will be my last question:

So the Purpose (and origin?) of Automata was found out, but were the names of the USERs (Arcana) Devil and Lovers revealed to Cryptos/infiltrators? and/or how would a Crypto refer to them?

MALBOLGE and PSYCHE were the names they used, respectively.
