Kinji will be Finvestigating! Which will be Interesting for any/all the mermaids from Crownbreaker Isle because they will very likely recognise this giant-ass yellow-bellied sea snake as the current ex-Pulao school leader, if anyone wants to play with that :3c
These are currently both still partially TBA, but--
Bismuth will be infiltrating as a Crownbreaker pirate! Exact history TBA, she's basically grown up on ships, started as a powder monkey on a naval ship, worked her way up to master gunner (she's in her probably late 40s/late 50s now) and ~for some reason~ defected into Piracy, and is one of the original crew on the Crownbreaker.
Gil is ALSO going to be infiltrating as one of the Xunhuo Guwei, and is ninety percent in this for the paycheck. He is strictly professional about trying to start a war - nothing personal. (He'll be, ideally, a lot more level-headed than the Assassin role 8D)
Okay so I’m not sure of exact details yet but as a fellow pirate Chloe almost definitely knows Bismuth. Maybe she’s trying to Be A Bad Influence since they’re not bringing cannons on this trip anyway, so it’s not like Bismuth has responsibilities (I mean probably she does).
Chloe and Bis knowing each other sounds good! Bismuth is always a very high-intensity character so she wouldn't be very hard to convince at all to go loaf off and get drunk. there may end up being some flirting
There's definitely plenty of time for them to hang out on the ship on the way to Paramo, since Bismuth/Midori doesn't have many tasks on her hands without cannons to fire.
Yukino is Infiltrating as a Bando refugee turned pirate. She first ended up on the Bando Peninsula after running away from home to avoid an arranged marriage and falling in with a Bad Crowd (definitions of "bad" vary based on who you ask). She initially landed in Nakamiyo, where she briefly joined the Mibugumi before realizing that really wasn't for her; she did pick up a little wind elementalism on the side, though, so it wasn't a total loss. She then moved on to Koroshima and spent some time there, only to find that wasn't a good fit either - although she did turn out to have an affinity for guns and throwing weapons, so it wasn't all bad. After a number of misadventures, she ended up on the Pulao, and Crownbreaker Isle after that, where it turned out that a pirate's life was for her, and she's a lot happier for it. Originally named Kyouko, she lopped off a syllable and now goes by Kyou.
Cassandra is Investigating, and probably Finvestigating as well. As the last Jaunt's official Thalassian spy, she is fully expecting there to be another Thalassian spy for this Jaunt, and she is hoping like hell that it isn't her late overlay's younger sister, whom the Empress had threatened to have turned into a Stricken and forced into her service if Alexandra failed her mission (this was actually part of Calypso/Alexandra's backstory during the last Jaunt, although Alexandra herself never told anyone, because why bother). I haven't decided yet how much resemblance she bears to her former overlay, although if she's Finvestigating, she will bear a prominent scar down the front of her body; if any of Alexandra's killers are part of the group, that might get their attention.
(Quick summary/review for anyone whose overlay might have reason to know: Alexandra was a member of the Pulao school, who unbeknownst to them had been pressed into service by the Empress as her spy and thrall and tasked her to work with the Deepsinger, the half-undead Stricken whale mentioned in the Jaunt history. She was caught midway through the Jaunt, confessed everything, told the leaders of the respective schools what she knew, and was then spirited away from confinement and killed by an angry mob while her ultimate fate was still being decided. She had the ability to shift her mermaid form, and used that to pass herself off as a Beluga mermaid named Calypso; upon her death, she reverted to her true mermaid form - a False Killer Whale. As mentioned, her sister was the Empress's hostage, used to ensure Alexandra's compliance.)
Raidou will be Infiltrating as Jung Ha-neul (or simply Haneul, to anyone from the Bando Peninsula), a summoner who is serving with the Xunhuo Guwei as a very unwilling conscript.
Originally from En Zhenming, his family once held a decent amount of power and influence, although those days were long past by the time he was born. His parents were somewhat inadvisably critical of the Truenamed Emperor, and were unsurprisingly disappeared at some point, leaving him to be raised by his much more loyal (and strict) grandparents. Unfortunately for them, their efforts to mold him into a loyal citizen of the Empire were slightly undermined by certain of the ancestral ghosts who also resided on the premises of their very old estate, who had much fewer qualms about voicing their opinions of the Emperor, since it wasn't as if he could kill them again. They did at least teach him to be more circumspect about what he said and where, but he still ended up exiled to the Bando anyway; still, it beats some of the alternatives. Needless to say, he is deeply displeased to find himself conscripted into serving the Empire in any capacity, much less this one. He's been brought in specifically for his summoning abilities; you never know when you might need someone to channel an actual sailor or gunner, or to interrogate the odd dead person here and there. (Honestly, he'd probably rather talk to the dead people.)
Although given that Haneul talks to and sometimes channels dead people, he probably won't be helping with Gil's discontent that much (and if he does, that's a choice bit of irony right there).
From the Empire of En Zeming, Captaining the Xiangfan Woniu, Shen Zhou is a ghost. He has been in the Emperor's navy for a few years as a captain, despite his youth and unusual appearance. But few who see him and his ship on the open seas live to tell the tale. The rumor is that no gun can fire on him. That he is protected by the Dragons. Whether or not that is true, well. Who can say.
At the moment, however, they are flying no naval flags, nor in their naval uniforms. Shen and his ship are dressed in the plain but bright clothes and paints of a merchant of fireworks. There's only one problem. Their true mission has been sabotaged.
Personality: Precise, paranoid, ice-cold temper, logical, quick in mind and body
CREW NEEDS: - general sailors/warriors - explosive experts - spies/warriors - face persons (to talk to people, sell fireworks, bamboozle the authorities and the nosy) - Second in Command - steady, loyal to Shen over the Empire, fighter, observant
Gil can be on Alcuin's crew! Maybe as a face/general warrior - I had an idea before that his family were fireworks merchants who got more or less conscripted to this mission, so while he's loyal he's very emotionally detached to the situation.
Raidou's still unnamed overlay can serve as a resident Summoner in case they need someone to fill in on particular duties and/or talk to the occasional dead person. As an unwilling conscript, though, he probably won't be happy about it.
Haru is going to be playing our plot role Assassin for this Jaunt!
Chun He is the second in command for the Xiangfan Woniu's mission, loyal and dedicated. While she'll leave causing explosions to other people on her ship, Chun's perhaps a little too fond of her own skills with the blade... If someone doesn't seem to be posing a threat to the En Zhenming cause, she seems like a calm, elegant (as far as naval travel allows) and proud individual. If someone does, regardless of who, she's fairly likely to stab first, find a monk to ask questions later...
A youngish (25 or so) Siren rebel who has found himself in charge of the group of mermaids that are working this operation. He is not the best at organization all the time, but his words are wise. Usually, at least. He is a decently powerful Singer but does not let his power get to his head - he listens to those with information and considers it rather than dismissing them due to their rank. However, when he gives an order, he expects it to be listened to and carried out. He does not understand or trust humans very much and prefers to keep them and their society at arm's length.
Recently, he's been a bit more snippish, but this is a difficult mission, after all...
Physically, he has an orca tail and faint vitiligo up his body. He is fairly slender, with long white hair that flows around him that has a single black stripe down the side. His torso has several scars along it.
Deaths is back as Dia the Siren. She's been at this a long time and has a pretty good balance on Song addictiveness vs using it effectively but time will tell.
Sento is going to be investigating!...as a mimic octopus mermaid and so that'll be plenty weird for him. He's going to be very nosy and trying to stick close to Banjou even if the whole eight legs thing makes that far harder than it needs to be.
Hajime is still shook from his first time in this world, where he infiltrated as an Akuryu elder who was basically The Worst. He then proceeded to be a complete disaster by claiming to be said elder's secret son when the infiltration died and he respawned, so he'd really rather not get recognized, thanks. Unfortunately for him, the elder also had his name so he's just going to grab himself a pseudonym and wear a ninja mask on the lower half of his face and surely this won't be super suspicious or anything. Ryo will be accompanying him as the cutest green parrot so that will only add to his air of competence and mystery. (at least he can back it up with master-level prowess in mantis-style kung fu?)
Yes good, that is exactly the sort of attention Hajime was hoping to avoid, please pay him attention. He'll try to deflect all attention onto his adorable and distracting parrot.
Not much is known about Caterina (Catia to friends and lovers, and maybe allies who can stand her) even by most of the other pirates, as she tends to spin wilder and wilder tales about her past to every person who asks her.
The facts, as they stand, are these: Catia is an experienced sailor who has been on the sea in one role or another since childhood. Her prosthetic left hand (the loss of the original is another litany of absolutely unbelievable stories from "I got chomped by a mermaid in a duel to the death" to "I cut myself while cooking and it got infected") has a bayonet attachment, so she likes to brag that she's never truly unarmed. She's extremely difficult to ambush or surprise in a fight, and is talented with both pistols and blades. Maybe most importantly for the mission, Catia is originally from Paramo, so she's familiar with the local culture and customs.
Unfortunately for all involved, Catia is also a fun-loving flamboyant loudmouth who has been chafing a bit under the rustic conditions on Crownbreaker Isle. So yes, the mission is of grave importance, blah blah blah, but also we're here for a good time not a long time, so she intends to party. (Also if she doesn't get to kiss a mermaid this mission is officially a failure)
Pirate Crew Needs - Particularly good swimmers (for loading the contraband onto the ships) - People experienced in handling munitions/explosives - The general assortment of stealthy and fighter types - If there is a summoner among the Bando refugees that might be convenient just in case
Yukki/Kyou is a decent fighter, a great sharpshooter, and a wind elementalist. She could possibly also be persuaded into a bit of partying, although it's not a top priority for her.
Jaina is going to be investigating and trying very hard not to seem too monklike since Jeina had a bit of history. She totally doesn't know anything about summoning, clearly, she's not from the Sun Guard!
Death will be reprising the role of Dia, an older Crownbreaker Siren. She's been at this a long time so she's pretty good at balancing the use of Song with the addictiveness but time will tell!
Washis a smuggler and I'm not particularly committed to which group he's with so hit me up. Tess has pointed out that Rose kept her mermaid form so now he's also investigating and dealing with the fact that Rose can turn into a mermaid and he can't. He's going to start out infiltrated as a smuggler and Rose will be fixing that.
Minerva for sake of convenience should probably be with the Xunhuo Guwei so I don't trick over myself.
Lian is the quiet type on the ship. He's prone to fits of staring into space, and during these times he may respond vaguely, or not at all. He also tends to take things extremely literally, and doesn't seem to quite have the hang of colloquialisms or slang. But, hey - he's the resident magician. Some oddities are just to be expected.
Shiro is going to be Infiltrating as Shokai the Sturgeon Warrior.
Formerly Stricken, but now vaccinated and in remission, Shokai is missing his right arm at the shoulder but is still considered an able warrior and protector. This is a nervous time for him, as he hasn't needed to test how well the vaccine has worked yet. He's a Big Fellow, black tail with white armored points reaching fifteen feet long from his waist to the tip of his caudal fin.
He's a level-headed sort, and strong, set along both for his fighting skills and to serve as pack-fish and possibly babysitter for some of the younger and more rambunctious mermaids. Srs Mission is Srs Bzns. He has a the ability to sense others' electrical signals in the water due to the whisker-like tendrils that sweep back from his temples. He does not, however, have wonderful eyesight. Ten feet distant is about the range of clarity for him and beyond that gets fuzzier and fuzzier. ...he does a lot of squinting.
Weapons: salt-blessed saber at his waist, flint-headed spear across his back
Eren is Infiltrating as Yang Jie, a member of the Xiangfan Woniu's crew. He's just a normal fireworks maker and not an explosives expert using that as a convenient cover or anything... Which is to say he's definitely an explosives expert using that as a cover story.
Yang seems like a friendly, energetic, and free spirited guy most of the time. However, that friendliness will vanish in an instant if someone gets in his way. He also simply doesn't care much about the safety of others. While he doesn't usually go out of his way to cause unnecessary harm to the average person and isn't as quick to stab as a certain other member of the crew is, he's not going to lose any sleep if people other than the intended target get caught in an explosion he set. Unlike most of Eren's overlays, the only freedom Yang cares about is his own.
