CHARACTER RECLAIMS

From now until endgame, Synodiporia is closed to new applications.

However, players who dropped or idled characters but who do not have a behavioral strike against them may reclaim characters at any time. Dungeons and app windows are no longer necessary. Simply comment below with "I'd like to bring [character (username)] back!" And we'll take it from there.

Players already at 3 characters who wish to bring back a 4th or 5th may do so so long as they're current on AC. Players wishing to bring in characters above 5 may request special mod permission.

If you are uncertain if you qualify to reclaim, please email us at synodiporians@gmail.com and ask!

ABILITIES:

Erica is a werewolf in the Beta State. This means she has an Alpha that is technically her boss. He has the ability to trigger her transformation (seen in canon as Peter Hale’s howl forces Scott into transformation) and what he says goes.

Physically when in her werewolf state she has elongated teeth that are sharp and form fangs. Her ears grow pointed and become covered in hair. Her widows peak becomes more defined and she grows hair along her jaw. Her brow becomes more defined and eyebrows also grow longer hair. The bridge of her nose becomes defined by ridges, similar to that of a what a dog looks like when its teeth are bared. Her eyes shift to an ochre/yellow color. (Her eyes also now create Tapetum Lucidum ie: Eyeshine. This is shown with Derek and Scott, though it should be noted that the FX department didn't add the camera flashing when Matt Daehler takes a photo of Scott in the hallway, but his eyes still reflected the light.) Her hands develop claws that are dark in color and hard/sharp enough to scratch up metal. (Sound effects crews have added an audible sound to a werewolf revealing their claws, to that of a flicking sound, sort of like shucking corn. However, Erica hasn’t revealed her claws in a forced hand movement in canon, and the sound effect is slightly ridiculous.)

The color of her eyes, protrusion of fangs, and the reveal of her claws are all capable of manifesting without shifting beyond those physical features. When in danger or looking to protect themselves, Beta werewolves are capable of claws, teeth, and eyes - without growing the long hair or the change to their brows. (This is the “pretty” werewolf shift, or the one that’s easier on the make-up department.) This is shown in canon during the episode Restraint, when Erica pushes Stiles against the wall her claws are out. During the attack in the library, Erica’s eyes flash and her fangs are out before she falls to the ground victim of the Kanima paralytic toxin.

Being a Beta werewolf, Erica is not capable of a full wolf transformation. She also doesn’t have control over her shift during a full moon and the blood lust and desire to kill is far too strong for her to handle on her own. She has yet to find her anchor in canon, either, so she must be restrained during full moons to prevent her from harming herself and others. She can sense another werewolf being around her though. (Scott in 2x02 can sense Isaac in the locker room. He says it's a scent or something, but his eyes also flash yellow.)

Werewolves in general have many enhanced abilities. They are stronger than the average human. They are faster than humans and can even learn to run on all fours - which is referred to as loping. This makes them much faster at covering great distances. They have enhanced reflexes and vision. Their enhanced vision not only lets them see in low-light situations, but also track things that are moving very quickly. Erica in canon is seen catching a small crossbow bolt that Allison fires at her. Their hearing is capable of focusing on a single heartbeat from across the entire school. (Scott is able to pick-up Allison’s elevated heart rate while he is taking a science test and Allison is downstairs in the boys locker room.)

They are also capable of howling to draw attention to their position. Scott a few times has used his howl to draw someone to where he is both in S1 when he’s trying to draw out the Alpha and in S2 when Victoria Argent is trying to kill him. Growls and other animal like sounds are also heard during any fighting they might take part in.

Lesser used abilities are pain and memory transference. While Deaton says that they can’t remove the pain from another werewolf, they can help others. Isaac is shown removing the pain from a dog that is suffering from cancer. The pain becomes a physical thing that Isaac can absorb into him and his strength and pain tolerance allows it to be filtered through his body easily. Memory transference is used when a werewolf wants to show something that only they are aware of. By placing their claws into the nape of the other person’s neck they are forcing their memories into the other person directly at the spinal level. Derek did this on accident when he was suffering from wolfsbane poisoning to Jackson, so the memories that he transferred weren’t clear or with much purpose. It was just a random lashing out in a way.

As far as health advantages, Beta Werewolves are capable of enhanced healing. While Erica is told that her epilepsy will be taken away, it seems to have only given her a stronger control over her illness. This is proven when the Kanima toxin paralyzes her. This removes any control she has over her body and the increased stress of the situation triggers a seizure. It’s a modified one, because she doesn’t black-out, but it does prove that she is not fully cured. Scott’s Asthma is stated to be cured, but he does suffer a panic attack later. It is noted that scratches that are from the Alpha's claws will take longer for a Beta to heal from.

Werewolves have a hierarchy that allows an Alpha to become more powerful if he has a pack of at least three werewolves. All the members of his pack have their already strong abilities enhanced. (Peter Hale after fighting with Derek is injured and claims to not be healing as fast because he is an Omega. He needs a pack, an Alpha, like Derek to allow him to gain a more beneficial existence as a werewolf.)

However, with all of these advantages that come from having things enhanced there are other attributes that get enhanced that are not good things. Demonstrating an increased desire for risk-taking due to their belief that they aren’t going to be harmed is the main one. Almost all of the beta werewolves will run at danger full force, rather than take the time to think out a plan. Derek tries to teach them how to be less predictable during their training sessions, but they rely on the same moves instead of thinking outside the box. They have increased sexual desires. This could be directly related to all of their enhanced senses kicking into overdrive and allowing them to pick up on subtle scents and pheromones that previously weren’t discernible. They buck authority and challenge those that are in authoritative positions. (Ditching school, mouthing off to teachers and their peers.) Along with all of the lack of respect for authority and increased risk-taking comes the general statement that they are far more violent now. There is an increased chance of those violent tendencies pushing toward murder or at least maiming and the lack of concern for those cases is diminished. (When Isaac comes to the Lacrosse game during the finale, Scott asks him if he can eliminate their own teammates without killing anyone and Isaac replies that he can try.) All of these traits are increased during the full moon.

There are several things that can stop a werewolf in their tracks all the way up to killing them. Wolfsbane is the most common herb used against werewolves. There are different genus of the plant and all are capable of producing different results of pain and discomfort. Some have been used in bullets, some have been used in atomizers that create a smoke that is inhaled, and some forms can be wound and soaked into rope.

Mountain Ash is another herb/natural item that has been proven to deter werewolves. When it is placed in a complete circle it acts as a barrier that will not allow werewolves to cross it. When the wood itself is used in building it acts as a barrier. (Seen in the Vets office when Peter Hale tries to come toward Deaton.) Gerard Argent was ingesting it for days before he forced the bite onto himself and the bite fought against the mountain ash, causing it to not take and for Gerard to vomit up a dark black substance. The stuff is not good.

High voltage is capable of creating enough pain that it forces the werewolf to shift out of its werewolf state and back to full human. It's used in canon by Kate and Chris in a collapsible taser that is capable of delivering 900k volts. They have also shown them being wired to an electrical source to contain them in their human state and reduce their strength so they remain nearly docile.

The paralytic slime that is created by the Kanima can paralyze a werewolf. Even Derek Hale had to trigger his werewolf healing to try and force his body to react properly to being clawed. By physically harming himself more than the simple slice on the back of his neck, Derek hoped to force his body to heal itself, just like he had to do with Erica when she had it in her system. For Erica he broke her arm and then bled her to remove the toxin.

When it comes to killing a werewolf bisection is the most sure way to know they are dead. Their body, when in human state, is cut in half through the midsection. This is seen in canon in Omega when Gerard Argent uses a giant sword to chop a werewolf in half. Peter Hale was killed by being set on fire and having his throat clawed out. However, he came back to life. Victoria Argent was stabbed in the heart, right after her transition into a werewolf and you see her eyes go from the ochre color back to her pale blue. Kali was killed by glass through her skull and into her brain. Boyd was killed by being lifted and placed onto the claws of an Alpha.

The vault had been unusual. It kept her contained, but not just in the physical space. It had kept her locked in, the werewolf side of her itching beneath the surface, almost festering, for months as she counted the days and weeks. The moon should have made them stronger, it should have given them an outlet, but instead it just slipped by them. Trapped in that cold, metal enclosure they sat together and waited for whatever was going to happen. Erica thought that something should have happened already. They were Alphas, they were supposed to be these leaders with answers and a way to help out. Instead, they had taken away what little freedom she had been promised by Derek.

The crack of moonlight had been an opening and she felt it rush into her. The notion that she could actually try to do something, that all of her waiting around wasn't for nothing felt right. Rising up to her feet, she let the lunar pull tug at her and as quickly as she felt it -- it was gone.

Her body was not used to that sensation at all; body doubling over in a moment with the threat of getting sick. The dramatic pull of something being tugged away was twisting at her stomach. It was almost like a cramping sensation, but she felt the dullness wash over her and then it felt as though there had been nothing there at all. She had felt the moon before and this was most certainly not the same thing. There was no rage, no uncontrollable instant of wanting to rip and shred into the nearest thing. Blood lust -- a thing of the past.

It was more than just surreal it was unbelievable.

Not being in the vault, not seeing Boyd or Cora, not being anywhere familiar brought on an entirely new fear. She knew what Deucalion had been doing, the whispered words of his pack of alphas. The skills that werewolves had that Erica barely had any time at all to question and now she wondered if this was her fate. Trapped in a memory of an alpha werewolf.

"If you think your twisted mind game is going to get me to do whatever it is you want me to do... you're wrong." Derek had picked her for a reason and maybe she had abandoned the pack and Derek, but she wasn't going to give up on the girl that Derek made into something stronger. "Whatever you can think up, whatever pieced together memory you can shove into my head -- it's not going to change anything."

She could feel that tension rising in her chest once more, the anger and hatred for everything that she still had been without. Sixteen years old and she barely had lived a life worth living... and now she was trapped in yet another prison.
