CHARACTER RECLAIMS
From now until endgame, Synodiporia is closed to new applications. However, players who dropped or idled characters but who do not have a behavioral strike against them may reclaim characters at any time. Dungeons and app windows are no longer necessary. Simply comment below with "I'd like to bring [character (username)] back!" And we'll take it from there. Players already at 3 characters who wish to bring back a 4th or 5th may do so so long as they're current on AC. Players wishing to bring in characters above 5 may request special mod permission. If you are uncertain if you qualify to reclaim, please email us at synodiporians@gmail.com and ask! |

C H A R A C T E R;
NAME: Seta Souji
CANON: Persona 4
POINT IN CANON: True End (having just boarded the train?)
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: http://www.dreamwidth.org/userpic/4395549/1695032
CANON HISTORY: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Yu_Narukami#Persona_4
(In the orioginal game, he’s nameless. In the manga, he’s Seta Souji. In the anime & some later games, he’s Narukami Yu. I’m sticking with Souji as a name).
Plus some headcanon: I’ve always thought that moving around regularly is nothing new for Souji. The ease with which he settles into being a new kid implies practice. Whatever his parents do for work, it involves frequent relocation, and so my usual statement is that Souji’s lived in 17 years. “Seta Souji, birthdate March 15th, 1994, Blood type O. A fact about me… I was born in Tokyo but I’ve lived in 13 prefectures in the past 17 years. Please be kind to me.”
CANON PERSONALITY: Souji is calm, affable, and a little distant the majority of the time. Before coming to Inaba, frequent moves had taught him not to get attached, so despite his intuitive talent for understanding and empathizing with the people around him, he often seems shallow and aloof to strangers at first.
The truth is, Souji cares about people, and he cares about answers. That compassionate curiosity is the cornerstone of his personality. Years of distant people-watching have lead him to be very insightful about more or less everyone around him, because he does his best not to judge or jump to conclusions, but simply to watch, listen, and treat each new acquaintance as a totally unique and individual case, rather than comparing them to other people, stereotypes, rumors or preconceptions. And whether he understands right away or not, if he sees someone having trouble, he'd like to help. Every problem, like every person, poses its own questions, and Souji's enough of a perfectionist that no matter what else is going on, he wants to find the answer. It isn't ego that makes him put himself in the center of events, but a pre-occupation with any job, problem, or mystery he stumbles across.
The tendency toward being an analytical observer often makes Souji seem like a cipher to the people around him. While his easygoing manner, attentive concern, and seeming tirelessness are constants, Souji is a social chameleon, taking on the traits of anyone he spends time with -- but also taking on the traits they expect him to have. Relationships are another sort of puzzle to solve, and while his emotion is genuine, Souji is a people-pleaser, and he'd like live up to others' expectations. To an insecure friend who feels cut off from his old life in the big city, Souji is urbane and confident, understated. To a fastidious detective, Souji adapts his own curious nature to become a sidekick. To a girl who thinks everyone sees her as an artificial construction instead of her genuine self, he opens up a little, showing how natural it is to play different parts with different people.
So, who is the real Souji? What's under that watchful demeanor? Souji is a methodical puzzle-solver with a bleeding heart. He stays calm because he's dealt with unknowns all his life, and they make him curious rather than afraid. He's a growing kid who's ravenously hungry, and hunger combined with curiosity means he'll eat almost literally anything (once). He likes attention, likes seeing the people around him happy, and he'll push himself to extremes to make that happen without admitting any complaints -- it isn't that he's trying to be stoic, just that he thinks the effort is worth it. He has a dry, goofy sense of humor, and the closest thing he has to a deep secret is that, really, he loves and needs absolutely all the people around him just as badly as they need him.
POINT OF DEPARTURE: N/A
ABILITIES: Fishing, kendo, basketball, origami, cooking, academic brilliance, proficiency in English, Japanese, French, & Spanish, instinctive social understanding, and the http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Wild_Card Wild Card ability. Theoretically, anyone can have the power of Persona, providing they’ve been through the right circumstances to unlock it, but only a rare few have the ability to wield multiple Personas within themselves, and empower them with the strength of their social connections to others.
So, what is this power called Persona? It’s the ability to summon powerful archetypal spirits that represent facets of the self and Major Arcana in the Tarot. These beings may or may not have any external reality, but they express truths about who a person is, & have both powerful physical attacks and elemental magic attacks. Souji is capable of holding 12 or 16 within his mind at once, although he can only summon one at a time, and it’s unclear if he could use them externally in a conventional, real-world setting without some sort of magical or technological catalyst. However, they should be fully operational in Liminal Space.
Even when they cannot be physically summoned, Personas may be used to gain insight into people whose most fitting Tarot archetype matches their own; and becoming closer to such people will in turn empower the Persona.
INVENTORY; A Tarot deck, a cell phone, a wallet, a few pens, a pez dispenser, a pair of glasses, and a katana.
ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? He has a really, really deadpan sense of humor.

PROSE SAMPLE:
“...That’s interesting,” Souji said, voice mild, looking up at the sleeping dragon with a remarkable amount of composure. He walked toward it, quietly, making no pretense at stealth, while the others beckoned him back or whispered impolite suggestions.
“If it’s that big, it can’t be made of anything normal, or it wouldn’t be able to move. And it doesn’t quite look like any dragon I’ve seen before. So…”
The dragon opened one eye, baleful vermillion light spilling forth like a spotlight over him, and he paused, still looking at it curiously, until it began to growl, steam hissing from between its teeth.
“Hm. I think it’s time to go.” He made the observation, still calmly. A second later he was running.
