February State of the Game
I. March-April Jaunt Vote
We have three not-by-Matt jaunts for you to choose from to follow up Purgatory!
The Question of Albion: During the month leading up to the High King of Albion’s ceremonial abdication and retirement, the city of Londinium waits to see if the crown will pass in the traditional matrilineal succession or if the High King’s child will raise their banner against the rightful heir as expected. Meanwhile, a secret circle of sorcerers, lead by a failed Albionese druid, seeks to wield magics they cannot control--and should they succeed in mastering that magic, they would make valuable allies for either would-be heir. (Jaunt proposal by bii.)
Atlantic Edge: Earth is under attack from the dastardly forces of the Vigu Empire, intergalactic conquerors who make use of the dreaded giant monsters of their planet as their primary weapons of conquest. They've set up camp on Earth's moon and are trying to take the planet itself, but Earth isn't taking this attempt at conquest lying down. The Earth has banded together to create the Starlight Defense Patrol, which fights these monsters using giant robots known as Gigamechs. Can the Earth maintain her autonomy or will it end up as just another Vigu colony? (Jaunt proposal by Airdra.)
Couture of Many Colors: For several centuries, Mirrorland has been free of bloodshed thanks to the efforts of the mysterious bird spirits called the Gieus--free of bloodshed, but not free of conflict. With violent force prohibited, the people of Mirrorland instead use fashion battles to settle any and all disputes, creating a system in which stylists and designers are considered the most valuable members of society. After the recent mysterious appearance of the visitor from another world (and their talking pet), old assumptions have been shaken and new alliances are being formed. The subsequent appearance of the Travelers, yet more visitors from another world, can only complicate things further - especially given that someone has figured out how to work around the Curse of the Gieus. (Jaunt proposal also by bii.)
Voting will close Thursday, February 21st, at which point a walkabout vote will be posted, if it looks like one is necessary.
II. AC Concerns
Time has been especially fake this month, leading to jaunt mingle delays and several players struggling to get traction with their characters. We are mindful of this sluggishness, aware of the possibility of no Liminal Space time in the February AC window, and planning to determine whether to call it a pass month after we’ve done the first ACSavior report for February AC. (At this point, there is still a possibility the final jaunt mingle can be cut short, allowing us to get back ‘on schedule.’)
We’ve also taken note of player concerns about the ambiguous wording of the deadline on AC posts as written, and are going to work on rewriting the deadline section of our post template so it’s clearer. We’re not yet sure whether this change will be in place when the February AC post goes up; if not, rest assured it’s coming.
III. Summary Helper Mod Needed!
We’re still in need of a second summary helper mod, to take the strain of weekly jaunt summaries off of Bliss alone. Summary helper mods wade through the jaunt mingles and related posts (psychic posts and side logs), and provide the mod team with an assortment of links summing up the Important Developments of the week. As with our other helper mod positions, summary mods are not involved in app processing or handling player complaints.
If you’d like to volunteer, drop us a line in the comments below!
IV. Skill Clarification - Sensory Deprivation
Events on this jaunt drew our attention to the fact that Sensory Deprivation as written was incredibly ill-defined, in terms of duration, cooldown, and use on other Travelers. As such, we’ve made the following clarifications to the skill:
Cut off one of your senses - visual, audio, scent, tactile, taste, heat or cold, pain, etc. With Investigator Mind-Reading, this may be used on other Travelers (one at a time, must be initiated within your line of sight). With Filter Intrusion, it may be used on an unwilling character (but not, of course, unwilling players). When used on yourself, this skill may be turned on and off at will. When used on someone else, this skill lasts up to one minute per psychic skill in stressful circumstances, and up to ten minutes per psychic skill in relaxed circumstances. Sensory Deprivation may be used on other Travelers once a week, and you cannot use it on yourself after using it on someone else until the cooldown has passed.
