July SotG Follow-up
I. Jauntabout Concerns
The upcoming jaunt is set in an old setting with quite a lot of baggage, both in itself and attached to Liminal Space as a whole. To help players get a better grasp on Harrogate’s history as a jaunt setting, the Unquiet Dead info post will include a recap of what happened last time. Additionally, we’ll try to keep players posted in the weekly summaries as to how close Harrogate shenanigans are getting to something that will spill over into Liminal Space as a whole/have a lasting impact on the entire game once the jaunt is done other than ‘eliminating one of the competing Arcana.’
We respect the concerns of walkabout folks who don’t want to see too much bleedthrough from a Jaunt they’d prefer to avoid - there will be no creepy horror shenanigans on the Walkabout-side. Liminal & Network effects, in the form of Arcana instituting security measures, will carry over, but will have no horror component - they’re security firewalls, effectively.
II. Skill Clarifications & Un-Taking Skills
Streamlining the skill system is a controversial suggestion with a lot of potential to simplify and improve the game experience, and a lot of potential to make hard-earned achievements and the ‘feel’ of the game less meaningful. At this time, we’re taking no specific action to change the skill system, but we’re continuing to discuss all your feedback on skills and will continue to solicit more information & listen to opinions as we roll out future skills.
Specifically, we’ll be presenting possible options for un-taking & re-taking skills by the next State of the Game, and we will do our best to give new skills clear prerequisite paths, when that is possible.
III. Buddy System & New Player Orientation
We’re investigating a number of ways to help ease new folks into the game in-character as well as out. One thing that established folks with Room Creation can do to help is make sure there’s a description to their room on the Liminal Space info page, especially if it’s a permanent feature within Liminal Space. This will help veteran and new players alike get a feel for what’s likely to be around other than the space as described in a given mingle.
We’re going to continue to discuss, debate, & solicit opinions on buddy system options and other ways to help ease the new-player learning curve, and you’ll see this brought up again on our next SOTG.
Bii plans to incorporate things to point out the new characters in her future intro mingles. You may have already seen this with the hovering waffle cones at the ice cream barbeque.
IV. December Event
We definitely hear the concern that poking at Liminal underpinnings is perhaps not a thing to do when most of our playerbase will be too busy to participate, and that an AU event would be enthusiastically received. We will continue to brainstorm and discuss as December gets closer. For now, we’re going to focus on more immediate concerns!
V. Asking Mods Questions
Regarding flagging a mod to ask questions about a specific issue: when it comes to the nature of infiltration & investigation, any of us can be asked questions - we all have a pretty good grasp on things. When it comes to skill questions, Matt’s the primary source but usually most of us know the answer. When it comes to questions about a specific Jaunt, we will try to indicate in the initial plotting post who the point person is - half the time it’s Matt, and half the time it’s “Good God, anyone but Matt.” But there will be a clear location where you can look that up. We promise.
If you’re not sure who to ask your jaunt-related questions, the Questions header on our Jaunt info and summary posts is there specifically to be a catchall for any confusion or concerns, and we’ll always do our best to address those questions promptly - please make use of them when you see them!
VI. Shoutout to Our Peeps
If you remember something that was discussed on the SOTG which we have completely failed to mention here, and want to make sure we don’t forget it, comment below to remind us! If you want to continue any discussions from the SOTG & continue to make new suggestions, you’re welcome and encouraged to do that too!
You guys are the most responsive and understanding playerbase we could possibly ask for, and as always, we appreciate your clear communication in letting us know where we need to improve. Thank you.
