Week 2 summary/Week 3 plotting!

Week 2:

The Centennial Concert is quite an affair, but far from the only thing going on. Murmurs of discontent are somewhat more obvious than usual, and a number of interesting things have begun to come to light (so to speak).

Matthew, after some prodding to do the thing by Naoki, summons the spirit of one of January’s plague doctors to get to the bottom of this forbidden history, uncovering several bombshells in the process - not only about the plague, but about the ‘tithe to Hell.’ Turns out he’s found out just in time to explain Maria’s daytime headaches, as well as a few other people’s sudden vision sensitivities. Naoki recruits Helena and Minako to help him do some Science and reverse-engineer the plague test based on instructions Matthew got from the spirit.

Phillip sneaks Jaina into the opera for a date. Han hopes this rebellion, if it comes to pass, doesn’t get as ridiculous as the last one he was neck-deep in. Elphaba has lost control of her life. Jules is mistaken for a set piece. Drizzt attempts to keep his head down, now that he’s out of jail. Daneel is somewhat surprised to find himself enjoying the opera. Between trying to dig up information on the plague the long way, Helena finds herself trying to write a plausible wedding ceremony. Minako looks for a job. Ambrose attempts to join Daneel in ‘halfiltrating,’ but things don’t quite go according to plan. Toby continues her research on local matters.

Ciara gets an unusual project from her brother, leading them to wonder if Thorn was right for once after all. For his part, Thaan is looking to keep this new revelation quiet, at least for now - though his friends and business/shenanigans associates deserve to know, if only so they can take full advantage of the situation. Huxian starts looking for help getting visual confirmation on some unusual traffic he’s overheard at night. Dara goes about council business, while Melissa, Zoe and Minerva attempt to do some preemptive damage control. Roderik goes digging for information on the Dusklings’ recent land acquisitions. Nio enjoys the hell out of the opera. Verena continues her tithe-related inquiries.

The concert is a popular spot for dates. Mani puts off going home as long as possible. Kastor, inspired by the opera, starts casting about for interest in a 24-hour concert by and for everyone. Bird gets a rare day out.


NEXT WEEK:

The Tinkers’ Faire is open for business! But that’s hardly the only thing happening in town. Rebellious talk may be less focused, but it hasn’t exactly stopped, and the number of questions the council’s going to need to answer in two weeks’ time is steadily growing. Word’s also going around about setting up a 24-hour concert during the Samhain holiday.

Investigators who have not stopped eating a predominantly ‘sider diet, now that word is out that the food’s responsible for vision changes, will experience somewhat more pronounced ‘sider sensitivity.

LIMINAL SPACE

Early in week 3, the snowcano in Liminal Space is going to erupt. Once the snow/dust settles, it'll have a nice crater where the peak used to be (not unlike Mount St. Helens post-eruption).

In the crater is a wedding chapel made of ice.

Matthew's going to be using Questing Sense this week, to try and follow up on the information Lin gave him - if the QS lets him direct it at all, he'll be trying to focus on finding out why the quarantine / lightside & darkside system is still in place. Where might that send him?

He'll also still have pigeons reporting in, if pigeons are somehow able to lead to plot again. He's also probably tried to get a few of them to focus on the guarded facility in particular.

The pigeons are very likely tapped out for Interesting Developments. For now, business at the guarded facility is proceeding as usual.

As for Questing Sense, if it's information about the quarantine Matthew wants, then information he will get... either by talking to Nio, or by heading straight into the tender arms of the January city council. Pick your poison.

Is there anything that Melisande would want/need to get for Imriel that she wouldn't be able to get directly because they are only for Lightsiders? Or something that would help a Lightsider deal with living in darkness? I was thinking maybe eyedrops since peering into darkness can't be good for Imriel's eyes.

There are eyedrops available to help anyone cope with eyestrain, if the family thinks Imri could use them. Otherwise, the council's been seeing to it that he gets Totally Vitamins You Guys since his parents insisted on keeping him, which would take care of his 'sider-specific needs.

What would happen if Altair/Atos was caught (masked of course) snooping/parkouring around that food warehouse everyone keeps talking about? He, Malik/Thaan, and Persephone/Percy have vague anti-circadian-divide plans to swap out food from markets, but Atos would want to scout out a source.

If he's on the roofs, he's less likely to be spotted; the guards aren't very good at looking up.

If he's caught without the mask, he'd likely just be told to GTFO. If he's caught with the mask, there's much higher odds of the council getting involved and confiscating it. He'd also end up facing a fine for possession of contraband.

Isolda/Istas is going to the wedding, and continuing to stalk people on the Council's orders.

Matthew is going to be sneaking into the Council buildings, because that's where QS is leading him. I'm kinda thinking he might ask the network for info about the Council buildings first tho, so it's possible that people might invite themselves along (though I'd prefer to keep it to one or two others).

He might also run into some of the various council characters, though in this case if there are any confrontations we'd have to hash them out, because Matthew does have a lot going for him in terms of avoiding notice (life sense makes it a hell of a lot easier).

So would 'siders who do the diet shift also have an eyesight change? Almast has been told by Kenzaki about the food causing his vision to change and is testing the information by eating Duskling food for 2 weeks. What sort of change will he experience and how swiftly?

There will definitely be an effect, and within two weeks it'll be decently pronounced. A 'sider going on the Duskling diet takes a little longer to start feeling the difference than investigators eating 'sider food, since the investigators are a blank slate and 'siders have been eating this stuff all their lives, but going on the Duskling diet effectively makes them Dusklings, given enough time.

In the first week of his experiment, Almast won't notice major changes. By the second, though, his vision will be slowly starting to even out across light levels.

How does elven mana sense work? I know it's come up in part in PP, but I can't find the info in any of the community posts for ease of later memory refreshing/people who weren't in those PPs having that info.

Mana sense is mainly useful for finding leylines and refilling storage devices, and takes some effort to properly develop.

Travelers using flashy magic and giving someone reason to scrutinise said will face a lot of questions because Mana Doesn't Do That. But because Mana Doesn't Do That, more subtle magic won't draw automatic suspicion.

Ciara will be trying to help her brother figure out wtf is going on, and possibly whether they should raise the issue with the council.

Naoki will be doing Science, and with the al/chemical brain trust going to town on this stuff, very likely will have helped recreate the plague test by the end of the week. Won't that be a fun thing to take to the council meeting!

I'm just going to be tossing up an open second mingle for that for everyone to come get food and drink and dancing or whatever the heck else it is that elves do at weddings for a whole week. (goddamn weeklong weddings).

Both infiltrators and investigators are more than welcome to attend, and feel free to use the wedding as a staging ground for other shenannigans!

Thorn(e) was scarce a lot of last week because she had a fling with a Hell Denizen, but she's back with a vengeance and this week's broadsheet has an interview with that same hell denizen. Also, she's on the Duskling diet now after Ciara's goading and it's. It's gonna show some effects, this week or next.

Kanzeon/Chie is working with Kastor/Kanji on the 24-hr concert.

Maria is now on a liminal food only diet. Welp.

"Dara" is. Well. She's up to something.

So Kastor/Kanji might have realised he's bitten off a bit more than he can chew with his big plan. He's going to be running around the city like anything most nights... So he still had a couple of weeks? What's that when trying to coordinate stuff across cycles?

Raidou is... around. Doing something. And waiting for Riddick to get back to him about whatever he finds out about the farms and the warehouse. Mainly, he's going to want to find out what they're doing to the food at the warehouse and why they're doing it. He won't be sure what to do with that info once he finds it, but he wants to know.

Cassandra is working for Liam, and Minako's working at a Darksider cafe and trying to think of ways to politely refuse all the free food. They are both keeping their ears open for anything that might be useful.

Orion will be attending the wedding with his wife and kid, but other than that he'a likely trying to support Kastor with his big plans and writing some music as always. He's really one of the more quiet types in this jaunt.

Iza will be dragged to the Faire and has a table with Ciara (different times of day). He's really good with tinkering but doesn't think he is himself, so people buying and admiring his stuff will either help with that or make him run in distress... we'll see.

I would like someone to catch and/or interrogate Altair/Atos snooping around the food warehouse. He knows about the food "supplements", not that he'll let on. When caught, the most he'll allow people to think was that he was just trespassing and using illegal contraband. As answered in the question above, his skull mask and its illegal lenses will be confiscated, and he will pay a fine. Malik/Thaan and Persephone/Percy will be the only ones with skull mask alter egos now.

Naturally, when Atos is released, he'll go right back to his shenanigans like before. Since he doesn't want to get caught again, he'll be experimenting with smoke bombs for getaways and firecrackers for distractions. Chemists/tinkerers are welcome to help with this too, or even just be unwitting suppliers. What a nice time to visit the Tinkers' Faire...

Random smoke screens and mysterious popping noises in the streets will be an OTA prompt as soon as i figure out what happened with his arrest. Catch him on the roof, get on his good side, and he may craft smoke bombs for you or point you in the direction of supplies. (Or he may just drop one like a noob during a chase.) Smugglers and other ne'er-do-wells already known to him may receive them without fuss.
