Questing Country: The Next Jaunt.

QUESTING COUNTRY

July 22nd - August 26th

Nobody knows quite how Questing Country works. Any species who are capable of lucid dreams can enter it. Six Known Worlds are connected to it - planets which may or may not remember one another in the waking world, but whose Chosen have formed alliances through Questing Country for thousands of years. The landscape changes, but the place is real - anyone who dreams of Questing Country vanishes from their bed, and wakes up with the wounds, marks, or treasures they earned there. But a few things are clear: it taps into the most powerful beliefs in the minds of sentient beings. When those beliefs are too dangerous, Questing Country births strange talking beasts who lend abilities to the young, the only people hopeful and naive enough to believe one person really can change the world - and so, they’re the only people who ever have the chance to change it.

But there’s more to Questing Country than the Champions it anoints and their dangerous lives and uncertain fates. These troublesome beliefs - they take shape, too. The Fire Mushrooms range out from the place called Nuclear Winter. Hordes of Men in Black come from Conspiracy Country. If they’re not stopped here, they gain power in the dreams of the Known Worlds… and those are only a few of the more obvious ones.

Sometimes, though, the untapped powers of Questing Country find other shapes, as well. There are unstable nodes of energy called Valences that appear only a few times a generation… and when they do, Champions and Oracles and Adversaries all fling themselves into Questing Country with wild abandon. Because every Champion has some belief they’re fighting for, some hope they want to come true… and deep in their hearts, every Champion believes that one day, if they’re strong enough and pure enough, it will. The Valence is that belief, taken shape, the hope of hopes, the power to make dreams come true in an instant… but because Champions believe they have to prove themselves worthy, well, they’re right about that, too. To gain the Valence, they first have to succeed in a series of tests, tests that will send them against their friends and allies from across the worlds...

Raidou is Infiltrating as Champion of the Moon; I'm still trying to nail down his powers and species, but illusion and/or shapeshifting seems most likely for the former. He hails from a very strict, traditional, and conservative family with very set views on sexuality, which in turn affects his appearance in Questing Country: He's been told so many times that Kuzunoha men must be firmly heterosexual that he automatically shapeshifts into a female form in Questing Country, because according to his family, only women are attracted to men. Obviously, this is something he'll have to work through if he wants to avoid becoming a Pillar at some point. He is in a Bond with Neeshka and Sabetha; I think we decided that Neeshka knows his situation, while Sabetha does not.

His Spirit Animal is also undecided but will probably be a melanistic cat of some species or other, because when in doubt, I will go for the easy references.

Minako is Investigating, but beyond that, I have no idea. Mothman's coming with, though.

Cassandra is on walkabout this time out.

Now we just need to get Neeshka to appear as something other than she is, and we'll have an entire bond full of people with visible manifestations of deep seeded identity issues.

Except Neeshka HAS no major issues here except for her missing sister, so... I can't think of what she'd DO differently XD

Her issue could be that she has no issues?

Seriously, though, she's going to have her work cut out for her, isn't she?

Sukuna-Hikona is going to end up being Naoto's Spirit Animal, so Mascot funtimes could be had.

Also, gender-shift because of issues for the... lose? Win? Something?

...the fact that Kanji currently knows nothing about Bad Bad Bathhouses etc and is in the wrong AU for such ANYWAY is a little sad here. But if he ever discovers Raidou's predicament, hunh, he'd be happy to talk most likely?

He does have the word "Invert" written on his hand in the first Liminal mingle, but Kanji would have to know what that means in context.

A few more bits of info now that the Jaunt's started:

Raidou is still largely the same as above. I've more or less decided that's he's starting with shapeshifting, with the potential to gain water-based powers (or possibly lunar energy beamspam or something) if he starts sorting out his issues. His Spirit Companion is a Pallas' cat named Dawon who does not suffer fools well but is relatively patient with Raidou.

Raidou will be on this journal as long as he's presenting as female because I don't have enough icon space for him to use his normal account. He'll be going by Reiko.

Minako is going to be the Champion of Doors Portals, which she's rather miffed about given how she ended up. Her Spirit Companion is the haughty Suzaku, who has no idea why she's so upset. (Mothman, meanwhile, is thoroughly offended on Minako's behalf and tries to make Suzaku's life miserable on a nearly daily basis, which just adds to Minako's exasperation over the whole affair.)
