Liminal Events & Metaplot: 8/5 - 8/18!

At the conclusion on the Jaunt, on August 5th, everyone will be drawn to Liminal Space… which will be a little different than usual. Rather than simply a combination of two environments, it will be a chaotic combination of them, a nonsensical mansion… every room in it resembling something drawn from the Travelers’ own homeworlds, and in fact, from the Travelers’ homes. It’s a chance for nostalgia and homesickness, for uncomfortable revelations, or for anything else characters want to explore or share about where they come from… and for those who want, it ends there.

But for others, it can go deeper. Exploring the house, Travelers can find an unusual number of dungeon portals in the form of mirrors, and they’re not only for characters doing reclaims. All the portals connect to a maze of carnival funhouse mirrors, in which the characters can see themselves, rather differently than they’d expect. Older or younger, genderflipped, traumatized where they are well-adjusted or vice-versa, villainous where they are heroic… and if they look for long enough, the image and the reflection may temporarily change places, leaving the character altered for anywhere from a few hours to a few days, at the player’s discretion. Anyone trying to reclaim an idled character will find themselves trapped in such a mirror, dealing with a decidedly sinister reflection their Fellow Travelers will have to help them defeat or escape…

On August 12th, while the portals to the mirror-dungeons will remain open, Liminal Space will shift again. That taste of home sweet home is gone… replaced by a train station in the grips of a natural disaster. Fire, flooding, cave-in and collapse… fissures in the floor opening onto seemingly endless falls… but only on the empty, trainless tracks, leaving the main platform safe and clear. There are, of course, timetables clearly displayed, showing routes departing to Paramo, En Zhenming, Thalassia, and Blackbanner Port. All trains, wherever they are, apparently depart at 00:00. And above every train schedule, there are blank, gold-rimmed clock faces with neither numbers nor arms.

It may be just another strange Liminal Space. And it may be the best chance to to understand the trumps so far. Interested players are welcome to form small groups and explore the more dangerous reaches of the station, or just hang out by the newspaper stands and snack kiosks - participation in the mini-event is completely optional.

And of course, on August 19th, the Pirate/Mermaid Event begins (plotting for that will be up soon).

Sure thing.

Lord, this event is getting complicated re: timelines.

Oh godddd poor baby :'C This is going to be... Ugly. Real!Levi is gonna be like DDDDD8 (stoically, of course) when he comes back to that shitshow.....

Yeeeeah haha, jesus... I'm probably gonna have like a word doc or something to keep track of what's happening when...

I know Levi and Erwin are gonna be having a Talk in Erwin's little slice of hell right when they first get back... But I think that's all I have planned for pre-swap threads. After that m!Levi is stealing a wallet...

Lemme know what works best for you timeline wise and I'll roll with it! Levi's probably gonna do a network thing to return the stuff his mirror stole to whoever it belongs to afterward... He'd probably want to see to Armin first though, if you wanna play that out / handwave / etc.

Really, you have no idea. Because after Levi's finished with him, mirror!Phedre - who is a sadist and extraordinarily good at causing people pain - is going to help patch him up. He won't know it's not really her, and he'll trust her and open up to her - making him incredibly more vulnerable for her attack. Which is going to start with just emotional abuse, undermining his self-esteem and his relationship with Sansa, and and he probably won't even realize she's doing it at first. And then the physical and possibly sexual abuse will come later.

For much the same reason, really - older Armin stops her from hurting Alcuin, fighting her and at one point holding her at bay with a sword to her throat. Sheee doesn't take that well, so her abuse of little Armin is going to be particularly cruel.

Haha, ping me tonight and I'll see if I can get things straight. I'm going to have so many threads going on, and so will the people I have plans with.

But yeah, re: what we're talking about in the other thread, Armin's not gonna be doing too well by the time Levi's himself again.

I SAW THAT it made my heart hurt :'C Punching bag Armin is go ;___;

Okay, so in that case... Do you wanna have that thread with m!Levi end with him leaving Armin to his own misery somewhere before real!Levi comes back?

(Also- and it may be in the plotting post but since this window is open- do you know if the real characters know what their mirrors are doing?)

Aaaand an edit to add from the other thread: will definitely ping you later on when I'm home and can iron things out without the job wardens breathing down my neck 8'D

Yes, that would be good. If he just kicks the kid enough that he's satisfied and leaves.

It's my understanding that players can choose whether or not their characters retain their other selve's memories. Whether this means they know what they're doing in real time or they get their memories when they switch back (if you so choose), I'm not sure. Though it probably doesn't make much of a difference.

And good. I have a lot to figure out about this plot.

Well, we should get these two some CR in Liminal Space and all . . . (And depending what day it is when she has her spook, she'd either get normal!Hitsu or mirror!Hitsu. The latter of which is his past self -- tinier and brattier.)

Sansa will be holding court vigil on the main platform while others go off to investigate, praying for their safe return- and for the discovery of something important. Those that are less likely to go investigating are welcome to sit and wait with her, she'll be good for a chat, and will be putting on a brave face for anyone who may be frightened or apprehensive about where they may be going.

Re: A Slice Of Home

Raidou's slice of home is the Sacred Hall in Kuzunoha Village, pictures of which can be seen here. The room is dominated by the three gigantic pine trees in the center, and the atmosphere is probably best described as "portentous." It's the kind of place where you'd expect to hear ominous voices addressing you out of nowhere... which is more or less what happens there most of the time in canon. (The ghosts of Raidou's predecessors will appear here during the Game Over, but that's obviously not a thing that will be happening in Liminal Space.)

It's not Raidou's favorite place.

Raidou's up for exploration; he's not the type to stay put in a situation like this. I'm fine with any direction, really.

How much would Alcuin internally keysmash if a distinguished, 54-year-old older!Leonardo showed up in his courtyard?

Leonardo will be finding his workshop!... again. Anyone who's seen it before can feel free to recognize it. But the "outside windows" show Venice circa 1488, not that weird Venice/Florence mashup that was in the dreamscape. You can't exit from the windows, obviously, and there's no one else in there but Leonardo himself (once he finds it).

I'll post links to pictures in my toplevel post for those of you who want to see what it looks like! It's very nice, lets a lot of warm sun in, but it's kinda messy and oh yeah there are dead bodies in the corner (for research purposes, he can assure you).

Leonardo here will be showing up for a few days as the 54-year-old Maestro from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, having just come fresh from the end of the Da Vinci Disappearance (wherein he got kidnapped and Ezio had to save his artistic ass). So he will be a little bruised and bloodied but none too worse for the wear when he first appears. Healers are more than welcome to fix him up if they like. :>

I would like for him to remember everybody and everything that's happened to young!Leonardo so far, almost like old!Leonardo remembers it from a dream. If you'd like him to remember your character a bit less, or not remember your character at all, just let me know.

I would love Leo to finally meet Aramis, geez. Perfect time to do that, y/y? :D (I figure Leo will be exploring what he can of the train station and then making his way to Paramo, and perhaps meet Aramis on the way?

i hope you're a hardy bunch, because Pascal's slice of home will net you smack dab in the middle of a gigantic ice cavern known as the Glacial Ruins. there's not really much interesting about it, though occasionally you may see scratches and claw marks on the walls or bits of fur (or other frozen unmentionables) on the ground, suggesting that there may be monsters or animals that live in these caverns; you may even hear a growl (and what sounds like the workings of machinery) echoing through, though they will be distant and you won't see any monsters any time soon. there are several ice stalagmites that have been knocked over, acting as bridges across gaps-- i hope your balance is good, because the caverns are riddled with trenches and they're quite deep.

the path is linear so it's impossible for characters to get lost, and it leads them to a significantly warmer chamber that houses a slew of machinery and a giant glowing crystal monolith after a few minutes of walking. it's not a good idea to touch the monolith since it's very likely burning hot, but for anyone who's looking to warm up after walking through the caves, this is the ideal place.

PICK YOUR POISON SYN. which Pascal would you like to see coming out of the mirror hall?

1. Boy Pascal! keeping true to her position as the second shortest in the cast, boy Pascal will only be about as tall as Hubert, if not shorter than him by an inch or two.
2. Big Bad Pascal! remember the big bad of Graces? the one that took over Asbel's best friend and gave him a rather, ahh... interesting look? now imagine that on Pascal here.

as a warning, if you pick option 2, Pascal will attack your character without warning and it may end up resulting in injury of varying levels. option 1 is definitely the more laidback option, especially since she'll still have her usual memories. in addition, she'll be seeing a variety of images in the mirrors, which'll give you an opportunity to get to know her better i guess...???
