549?? wow wow i expected so much more from you

Anders was still tense as he made his way towards Hawke, still waiting for this dream to go bad. Unless the idea was to simply trap them in this maze indefinitely, or until a lack of food killed them. But that almost seemed too easy, despite him knowing for a fact that certain demons operated that way.

It was only when Hawke was right in front of him that Anders focused his attention on the man, as opposed to glancing about as if expecting even the chandeliers to hold enemies. And when Hawke smiled, Anders returned the look with one of utter confusion. He almost took a step back at the proximity, too, but resisted, only tightened his grip on his staff slightly. This did not seem like normal behaviour, but perhaps he was under some sort of influence.

And when Hawke talked, that cleared up absolutely nothing. The confusion increased visibly on Anders' face. He said he had an explanation, which would be nice, but instead he was succeeding at the opposite.

The situation seemed stranger by the second.

"You're glad to see me?" Anders asked, once Hawke paused long enough to let him get a word in. His brows furrowed a bit. It hadn't sounded as if Hawke was glad for the back-up.

Was he a demon? Justice had no opinion on the matter, and there really was only one way to know, anyway. Finally Anders took a step back, placing some distance between them.

"My first instinct was that this was the Fade," he said, ignoring everything else that had come out of Hawke's mouth. He'd work on that if this test proved negative. "It isn't like any part of the Fade I've ever seen, though, and Justice would know, wouldn't he?"

He looked at Hawke, and hesitated briefly. But even a stranger should be able to read from body language that he was prepared for a fight, so when he suddenly flung a spell straight at Hawke's stomach, it probably came as no surprise.
