Cleritors are sent out to record all sorts of things - military tactics, smithing techniques, conflicts between bandit crews or Spires - racing to find a bandit before they're executed, to preserve their knowledge of secret hideouts; hearing that a noted craftsman will die without an apprentice; chasing the outbreak of Blight or disease to scavenge for knowledge amoing the dying are all examples.

Religion and deities are not remembered by any except Cleritors, generally, and even then it's widely agreed that no deities survived the fall of the Mystics.
