Tom Swale | Young Wizards Series

#64
While most others moved among the pumpkins, Tom stood just aside of the patch itself, speaking to a rabbit. More accurately, he was having a conversation, which involved a number of rabbits, and which was technically contiguous, though not with any particular rabbit. Those listening would find his Speech perfectly understandable, although he is just as recognizably not speaking any language they will know. How the rabbits are answering is not clear, although they do seem to be responding to him, or at least making motions and paying attention in a way that might easily lead one to think...

"That's fascinating," Tom tells the more recently-teleported bunny, crouching down politely, to get on his level, "Where I'm from, we see a similar function in most cats, it's pretty rare for a lapine subspecies to— no, no, of course I get that. Sorry, pardon my manners, I'm not suggesting anything of the sort."

There is a pause.

"Cats, actually. Do your people have regular work as gate technicians or just..."

It goes on like that, for a while.
