Plotting comment now Gil is the Forest Elder - meet Gilligan Reed!
He is old and scarred and has a severely fucked up back leg where he got caught in a bear trap trying to scare some humans away probably, so he always has a walking stick on him (that he keeps tied to his belt bc he walks on all fours as often as two feet). He's not a dad to everyone as much as a grandpa, especially to young'uns, doesn't take shit from anyone bc he is a honey badger. Has probably fought/scared off way too many Ferals in his time, which accounts for the majority of the scarring, and makes sure to stay very close to people he's had to help with that.
He's probably also low-key looking for a successor on the side bc he is old as balls, which could add an interesting angle to any CR he has with other older Forest Folk. Extremely stubborn and set in his ways, just want what's best for his giant furry family.
I have work now so Hit me up if you have any ideas for CR! I'm super excited for him to be an old man at everyone!!
Spruce is a young-middle-aged European Badger who helps fight off ferals and protect the wood and take care of folk. Respectful, but stubborn in his own ways. Fights with his claws and teeth and heavy metal gauntlets. Orphan, once had a younger brother, but everyone who isn't him is pretty sure Kindle died or went feral on his journey several years ago since he hasn't come back. Also tends to protect the trickster-thief Reynard the fox.
I think they've probably fought together and talked about the best ways to keep the Forest Folk safe and had the occasional roaring row but tend to make up afterward. Sound about right? Generally friends?
Man Gilligan probably grew up with Spruce's parents or something, they're about the right age range. He's probably watched Spruce grow up completely and is totally just used to this little shithead trying to fight him when they were both younger. Definitely get along well!
Depending on where Drizzt the Kitten is... I can see people taking exception to Drizzt attempting to go off by himself even though he's not one of theirs. He is without an adult. I want to annoy him so much with this.
Ambrose is going to be a middle-aged explorer bobcat stoat who has journeyed far and learned...a bit. He's from the Wood and has been home for a couple months so they likely know one another a bit. He himself has concerns about going Feral so...guide him Uncle Gil.
Malik is investigating as a stonefolk! He will not be wearing a shirt the entire jaunt, this is important because it's probably the first time he's done so publicly so.... y'all get to see his mark and scars.
He's just going to say he's got no damn clue what's going on and roll with whatever. This is a gr14 plan.
Kohaku's plan for this jaunt, right now, is to be all "Harrowgate sucked. I'm taking this jaunt off. Call me if you need me." And then just messing around for a while. Maybe she'll get a job. Maybe she'll take up bowling. I'm winging it once again.
He works for Beatrice, and all anyone really knows for certain is that he's a Retired General. He Handles Things for her when needed, this mostly seems to involve filling her coffee mug.
Altair is Stonevestigating and will probably notice very quickly that not only are there other species hanging around, but also that the humans haven't been taking them for what they are. He will probably try to use his new disguise to Blend In(TM) and learn more.
Jesse McCree will be investigating, but he's going to have been given a nifty new stonefolk body! Will he's going to have fun with, because damn it, he wants to relax a little. But also solve the puzzle. And maybe get some barbecue.
Eliot Waugh will be investigating as himself his first time out. He's probably going to ask some people to keep an eye out for certain ingredients and reagents and then ask around even more for people to store them for him because he needs that shit for his magic.
Colonel Tick-Tock will not appear, as he's gonna be hanging out in his dungeon.
Cassandra is going to be a human for this. Her newly arrived baby dragon will either be Investigating alongside her (in some form or other) or hanging out in Liminal Space.
Yukino will be Investigating in Stonefolk form. She was here for the first go-around, which means she gets to have flashbacks.
Minako is either going to be human or Forest Folk, assuming she can be somewhere Raidou's not. I haven't yet decided on a form for her. She already has a knack for potions thanks to Nova Venezia, so she might end up learning more.
Raidou is Infiltrating as Leone Reed, the Forest Foundling. Leone has been living with the Forest Folk since he was very young, after wandering into the woods and becoming hopelessly lost. He remembers very little of his life among the humans and doesn't particularly miss it, although he has a great deal of curiosity about humans in general. He considers the Forest Folk in general and Gilligan in particular his family, but he's also painfully aware that he doesn't quite fit.
Psii's going to be a youngish adult Stonefolk who got annoyingly good at telekinesis. Problem is, he can only do it under pressure. XD Let's plot for him or someone else to be saved from mishaps because surely nothing can go wrong.
I have no idea what Yakumo will be doing, other than investigating as a bird Forest Folk.
He will definitely wind up in forced musicals, because part of being a magic-ninja is that you look really hard into the magic sources presented to you to find out if you can combine them with ninja stuff.
Yakumo will also hate birdform, and will be using magic to transform himself into a human for like an hour at a time. Or will be using his wind form. Or will be possessing random objects. Whatever it takes to stop being a bird, basically.
More precisely, he will be a cheery dandy squirrel gentleman, a lovely light ginger colour, a tailor by trade and fond of fancy embroidered vests and hats with big feathers. His name is Dande.
Often accompanied by a pet black-capped chickadee named Lady.
Lupa Trueruby (please just call him True), is tall for stonefolk, dark red, and just woke up from being a statue for a long time. He's also an ardent historian. Ask him about the Wild Age, or the Golden Age, because he knows so many things! He's also got nearly a thousand years to catch up on so he's been frantically researching since he woke up. True is very quiet, calm, and has a tendancy to observe rather than act, but he'll happily share his knowledge when asked. He just is having some trouble making sense of all the topsy turvy that sleeping for so many years puts him through.
True is not an expert on magic by any means, but he does remember a bit about how it was used in the Golden Age, and tends to use a few simple spells often. Like making his claws and horns glow to read by, and ensuring that books are never dropped or spilled on, or have open pages disturbed by wind or interference.
Because of the long sleep, all the people he knew are gone, and he's drifting, so please be his friend/guide and help a historian out?
Pod: The Forest Youngling Hazel Wolverine is young for a Forestfolk, and lost both of her parents to going feral one right after the other. As a result she's developed a bit of an... obsession. She wants to do and try and see everything and she needs to do it now before she goes feral herself (she is convinced she will) and recklessly pursues these goals without a care as to the consequences. She's a white wolverine and completely adorable and will ruthlessly use this trait to get out of trouble. Or, more than likely, get into trouble. She especially wants to get out of the forest and go investigate all these cool humans. She's going to find a way to do it like the stubborn kit she is and no old men will stop her. Also the Foundling is the coolest person ever, and she will probably tell people all about how cool he is if they stop and listen.
She could use some more friends her age to drag into trouble, and probably some adults to try to keep her out of it.
...Sara is probably going to try and see about helping Pod sneak off and meet trustworthy human (Investigator)s. Because she finds her plight #Relatable.
Chie's going to be Infiltrating as Chiba, a Stonefolk warrior! She's a childhood friend of the Leader, enjoys the occasional livestock theft, has a pet cave lizard named Philly, and is romantically involved with another Stonefolk warrior named Soho. (That would be Souji.)
Maria's Investigoyling as a Stonefolk too! She'll probably end up using Goldenland or something similar as her alias to blend in better. (The plan is to mostly stick around Jules, since he's also a Stonefolk.)
Delaunay is Infiltrating as Andrew Montreve, the Industrialist's former trophy husband, since remarried to a younger woman. They had an acrimonious divorce nearly two decades ago after each of them blamed the other for a family tragedy. He's a poet as well as a book reviewer for the local newspaper. He also has a trust fund, which is what allows him to get by just doing that. (His poems, which deal primarily with loss, are very well-regarded.)
And finally, Thorne is going to be Infiltrating very quietly in the background as Carol, a recently married woman in her late twenties, who volunteers part time at the library and is working on a historical fantasy novel in which the legendary Stonefolk and Forest Folk really exist.
Super belated, but just wanna throw this in here in case it doesn't all make it into a top-level:
Steve is Stonefiltrating as Boldflint, a dark blue Stonefolk standing a little over the average seven feet tall, with a fairly impressive wingspan considering they're not used for flight. Basically, he's overall physically impressive (specimen~) even for a giant lizard man, which follows given that he used to be a champion of Stonefolk parkour, well known amongst his kind (and probably humans and Forest Folk as well, before the amulet went missing). That was, ofc, until he got turned into stone, so he's been under the curse for the full thousandish years, and was only recently uncursed along with the others.
Probably too late, and sorry if I ask this on plurk (but I think that was before you decided to go the full 1000 years?), but are you interested in established CR between our 1000 year old dudes?
If you've already got his backstory established and there's no room for a brother or a friend or anything, no worries. I don't have much established and I haven't gotten into the jaunt yet, though, so I figured I'd ask.
