John Justin Timothy, Viscount Drake; Eclipse of the Manticore Knights

Lance Corporal John Justin Timothy, 14th Viscount of Drake & 4th Baron Wayne, AKA Eclipse

'Eclipse' first served as Squire & batman to Bruce Grayson, 1st Baron Wayne, and later to John Paul Grayson & Richard Grayson, Bruce's sons, during their tenure as Manticore Knights. The 13th Viscount Drake & Baron Wayne had saved one another's lives in the Falklands War, and as a result, each had their sons serve the other as Squire. In the last few years, however, misfortune has fallen on both families, who share an ancient connexion by marriage, leaving John Justin, at 21, the only surviving heir in the male line. Upon achieving his knighthood, he was granted the abeyant Barony of Wayne as well as the Viscounty of Drake (and it is as Wayne, not Drake, that he is entitled to sit in the House of Lords).

As a Squire, John Justin went by PRIDE, as Richard Grayson, at the time, went by JOY. His granted power was simply a slight increase in athleticism: strength, speed, and stamina, matching or slightly exceeding what a regular human could achieve. Such grants are extremely common. Upon his ascension to Knighthood, however, the Manticore granted him an additional power - the ability to steal energy from another Empowered and use it to further boost his strength, speed, or stamina. For this, he requires close proximity, contact with the ground, and an Empowered-assisted attack or ability directed at him - he cannot simply reach out and vampirize someone. However, a punch thrown with super-strength counts. For a short while, he went by HUNGER, until a dramatic televised battle with the villain NOVA FLARE, a solar-powered hero. When John Justin's victory literally darkened the sky at the end of the fight, someone called him ECLIPSE, and since then, the name has stuck.

John Justin Timothy is a cold, aristocratic man, constantly frowning as if pre-occupied by trouble, sharp-tempered and incisive, and prone to wearing a riding crop as a weapon of self-defense. Considered one of Britain's most eligible bachelors, his disinterest in romance has lead to the frequent rumor of his homosexuality, which rumor he has directly refused to confirm or deny.As ECLIPSE, he wears a black suit with gold trim, and the riding crop is replaced by a trench knife and an SMG. His grimness is somewhat alleviated by a tendency to banter, and in order to confuse the targeting of villains who are well aware of his abilities, he has become a master of disguise, and makes liberal use of smoke bombs.

How old is Rosalie?

Regardless, it seems likely they've known each other a long time, having both been Squires before they were Knights. With their current, upgraded powersets, Eclipse & (Dart?) are probably a pretty good field team, & frequently deployed together. This will let Rosalie know at least one thing about John Justin that isn't regularly visible: he is DEEPLY depressed. The losses he has suffered have made him draw inward & obsess, & the verve & enthusiasm he possessed back when he was Pride have pretty much been replaced by a fatalistic sense of duty.

I would say he respects her, but these days he LIKES almost nobody, & goes out of his way to shut down social contact when it isn't necessary. Still, he DISLIKES a great many people, and he does not dislike Rosalie, at least.

I hadn't really thought about it. Usually I default to her canon age (24). However, this time around Rosalie's got to be about the same age as Sabetha and we haven't discussed ages yet.

I could see Dart and Eclipse knowing each other from ye olde Squire days! I like the idea of them coming up into the Knights together. Though, the way I've been plotting with Rosalie's upgraded powers is that the upgrade happened shortly pre-Jaunt so she's still feeling out how extensive the upgrade is. Maybe they were a field team pre-Rosalie's upgrade but have only done drills/exercises post-Rosalie's upgrade?

Other than that, Rosalie...is probably full of awkward feelings about Eclipse, haha. She respects him a lot too and has certainly noticed the changes in him over time. But she has no idea what to do about it. Bringing it up would almost certainly go poorly and she'd rather not wreck their working relationship on something she thinks will fail horribly. But Drake also can't go on like this forever. And as time has passed the sense that she's the only one whose noticed probably makes her feel more and more like the onus is on her to do something.

Eclipse is 21, but he also started as a Squire at 14, so that's probably about exactly right for when they started as Squires?

Yeah, I think that works!
