Questing Country Summary

Week One:

The Jaunt begins in an odd transition unlike previous experiences the Travelers have had, drawing them into the dream realm of Questing Country. A new Valence has been formed. Spirit animals and familiars begin to pop up everywhere to greet their charges, except for one Infiltrator in particular. Charoite’s Selene has been stolen and she’s busy accusing all comers for the theft.

Luci and Kore discuss how to ‘win’ at Questing Country, the former insisting on cheating to get the Valence while the latter insists on doing it the right and way.

Zoe the Spartoi is reunited with her former Bondmate, Lupa. Alarmed by the changes in his appearance, Zoe finds out that he’s been captured by Spartoi priests and tortured over a long period of time in the waking world for rebelling against the warlike ways of their people. She vows to come find him and save him.

Bonds are formed as well as teams and the quest begins.

Week Two:

The questing continues and several dreamers are rewarded for showing extraordinary compassion and courage in confrontation the previous week, in the form of bracelets on their left wrists made of various metals.

Zoe introduces Alcuin, Leonardo and Genevieve to Zed, the dreamer accused of killing the former Champion of Twilight, Mina, shortly after she won the previous Valence. Deciding to help clear his name and unravel the mystery surrounding Mina’s death, the five form a new Bond group.

Week Three:

More dreamers are rewarded, this time with bracelets on their left wrists, for solving the most riddles.

Charoite meets a spirit animal in the form of a rabbit-headed caterpillar that insists they bond; that Selene must be dead and they must be unbonded. In reality, she couldn’t feel her connection to her spirit animal due to the residual magic left from the last Valence at Kingfisher Castle. Instead of bonding, she flips and turns from Champion to Adversary.

Naoto meets Zed, having been asked by Alcuin earlier to investigate Mina’s death. He questions him regarding the events of Mina’s death and Zed explains what he knows, adding that shortly after her death, spirit animals had apparently started going missing.

At the Lighthouse, Zed sees in the waters a replay of Mina’s death, solving the mystery of who had killed her at last: Luci. The vision reveals that Luci had taken part of Mina’s spirit animal’s essence, causing it to explode and kill the Champion, while this Valence-like essence was clutched in the vodyanoi’s hand.

At the castle, Luci is confronted by Kore regarding her ‘experiments’ of using spirit animals to create a Valence, but refuses to give up. Kore reveals that her mother had taken ill months ago in the waking world, leaving her completely alone - part of the reason why she wants to make sure she and Luci are never separated. Then Kore and Spot agree to the latter being caged and put aside so he might not disturb Luci’s plans.

Sabetha, Reiko and Nessa enter the psychano caldera, discovering the High Priestess’ lair. In it, there is a plaque depicting Sabetha wearing the crown while holding the bowl and keys all found on an altar within. When Sabetha does as the image depicts, the plaque changes to show a rabbit hutch where the pedestal had been, but when she tries to feel for the hutch along the pedestal before her, she’s given a sense of warning and draws away, leaving it undisturbed. They examine the runes around the place, unable to decipher them while suspecting they might be Hecatite writing. Then the question is raised: might this place have something to do with Charoite’s missing spirit animal, a rabbit with butterfly wings?

Meanwhile, Emania and Phillip enter Kingfisher Castle, Zatanna’s Infiltrator self being drawn there by her High Priestess mark without her conscious knowledge. This leads to them discovering Luci and Kore, which doesn’t end well; Luci kills Emania and Phillip is captured. Phillip then informs the other Travelers through the psychic network of what’s going on, along with the information that Mina is alive and present.

Zoe rescues Lupa in the waking world, as promised.

Week Four:

Questing Country floods and even the Vodyanoi are at risk of drowning. More dreamers are awarded, this time with bracelets on the right wrist, for facing their fears or ambitions in order to help others to advance forward.

Naoto continues to conduct his investigation regarding the death of the Mina and to clear Zed’s name, and later learns from him of how Luci was responsible for the crime, as well as the killed spirit animals.

At Kingfisher Castle, Luci is questioned by Champion-turned-Pillar of Twilight, Mina. While the latter points out that her personal quest might result in the Adversary’s death, Luci only answers that as a vodyanoi, her time is limited anyway. Kore then comes to say that Questing Country can be destroyed for all she cares; it isn’t as important as the waking world, despite Mina’s insistence that it is important for tying so many worlds and people together. In private, Luci and Kore decide that should the plan succeed and the Valence be made, they will wish to be in Questing Country together forever, not wanting to be separated any more.

Week Five:

Kingfisher Castle is destroyed in a blast from Luci’s success at creating the Valence. There’s one problem - the crafted Valence doesn’t appear immediately in her hands, but
elsewhere with the true Valence.
Mina is found alive but a bit charred at shore, Charoite’s spirit animal alive and well in her arms. On being reunited with her spirit animal, Charoite returns to being a Champion and decides against racing for the Valences or in seeking vengeance against Luci.

Questing country gives out its last round of trinkets to those who saved or recruited others to their cause, using crowns of various metals to denote just how successful they were. Based on how many of these prizes the Dreamers won and what metal they were made of, people are placed at varying distances from the Valences, with the most successful being right at the centre of the action. While Zoe should have been the closest, as she had no desire to win the Valence, Questing Country recognised this and put her at a safer distance away.

At the base of the helix leading up to the Valences are Lupa, Nessa, Phillip, Kei, Hajime, Luci and Kore. They’re stopped from immediately dashing off by Lupa’s shield, which he doesn’t lower until he’s had a moment to discuss their reasons for being there. They voice their wishes from the Valence, Lupa and Luci discuss the reason for its existence, reasoning that it must be formed from the excess energy of Questing Country. The differing opinions come in that Luci feels Questing Country doesn’t need that energy, while Lupa believes it is created to help Dreamers maintain the balance of the world.

Luci and Kore fail to win either of the Valences despite their efforts with Nessa and Phillip instead emerging victorious. While Nessa wishes for Reiko to not have to marry, Phillip grants the two ‘villains’ their wish, resulting in Luci being turned into a Gorgon so she would wake with Kore in the same world.

Naoto makes a speech explaining how the competitive nature of Dreamers hunting for the Valences have corrupted Questing Country, leading to actions such as Luci’s for what was essentially a pure purpose. She encourages the Dreamers to consider this and to work towards making Questing Country a better place, rather than a battleground.

In the aftermath, it turns out the High Priestess Trump was very busy this Jaunt, marking Sabetha, Luci, Laura, Phillip and Thorne, breaking ROSE’s rule of ‘5 marks per Trump’ when she’d already marked Zatanna previously. What Thorne has kept secret, though, is that during the Jaunt, Selene was actually the Trump herself, though the spirit animal people now see is not the High Priestess anymore.

I think the thing with Emania and Phillip should be under Week 4?

Yeah, that definitely took place after Luci's conversation with Mina.

Random comment: Both weeks two and three say 'right wrist'. I'm pretty sure one of them was a crown, but I can't freaking remember which one. Also the last reward was a belt, not a crown.

For week four, Charoite found out from Zed about Luci's prior awful shenanigans and they called together a big group meeting with their bond groups plus Kei and Joscelin to discuss what to do.

Week Three, when Kore confronted Luci at the castle, she flipped Adversary, which is why they agreed to lock Spot up, so he couldn't go doppleganger and mess things up.
