Waking Worlds discussions!
Hello all!
So the suggestion came up on my plurk that it might be useful/interesting to have somewhere to throw our thoughts and headcanons about what goes on in the different Waking Worlds - for inspiration, discussion, in case anyone's missed anything on a thread somewhere that they might want to use, or to make sure that people are on the same page about what they want to be?
Here we go, then! Each of the six main dreaming species gets a top level below, plus one for anyone else who's around the place or for any other odd cases. Of course, the Waking Worlds are all big places, and things can vary culturally from one region to the next, so nothing's likely universal in any of them apart from the bits that were initially given... I'm no mod, just a player who loves worldbuilding to death. XD
Jump in with any thoughts or any additions, and I hope this gives people some ideas or things to work with!

HECATITES
Hecatite Racial Traits: mineral composition, easily overwhelmed by sound, metabolic control, crystal growing, bludgeoning vulnerability, high intellect, low stamina.
Re: HECATITES
(In reality, if your family any money and position already, you get your kid tutors and extra lessons to prepare them for their grand future, so the higher stratas still have the advantage.)
Also, a couple weeks back (like right before the Valencequest started) was Exam Season for Hecatite children, adolescents, and young adults attending university. Which is basically the time of year when (at least in the regions Kei and Charoite come from) all state-sponsored institutions have their exams and depending how old you are, passing or failing can determine a lot about your future, whether you can go to university or if you'll be tracked into education for a trade.

* Curse words used so far relate to 'shattering' and 'cracking'. Anything that'd relate to flaws in crystals or how they'd easily be damaged would seem to fit too, but I've yet to come up with any good ideas there.
* A very organized society. Very intellectually dominated, see the above note on exams in some regions at least...?
* It'd make sense for the rest of the life forms on Hecate to be crystal/mineral based too. Everything is sparkly, dammit?
* Considering the amount of sparkly and pretty that's going on, it's possible they see gender roles/stereotypes differently to eg. humans, if they even have such concepts. (Kei certainly isn't worried about such things...)
* I'm wondering how they see non-grown tools in those cases where they "have" to use such things. And I can kind of imagine there being a lot of sentiment attached to things that one grows oneself, or have had passed down in the family... "that used to be part of Grandma Beryl once, scratch it!"
* I consider them to have a rather different outlook than humans on death and dead bodies: with their technology being focused around things that grew out of another person, bones and corpses aren't so squicky or macabre, and in fact, might be used to construct something that'd mean a lot to the deceased?
